CLOSED the first Saturday of the month due to Genealogical Society meeting. *Typically closed last two weeks of December.
Special group tours can be arranged. Please call to set up an appointment. A $5.00 donation charge per person is requested for all tours of complete facility. Tours of the museum only are $3.00.
Besides the Lowrie-Beatty Museum, the society's twelve acre site includes the Carter House, an early pioneer homestead; the Strickland House, an 1860's brick home: the John Campbell Land Grant Office, 1810-1811; the Mahan Barn, an 1810 New England type barn; the Ford Seed Company Museum, housed in an old photographer's studio; a restored Case Steam Traction Engine; the unique Proehl-Kline Clock Tower housing the 1882 Portage County Courthouse Seth Thomas clock and courthouse bell; a restored Log Cabin dating back to the 1830's; and various farm buildings. In addition, the Portage County Historical Society owns the site of the 1820's Mantua Glass Factory, Mantua, Ohio.

Portage County is located in Northeast Ohio, south of Cleveland, west of Youngstown and east of Akron.
The Portage County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society meets at the Portage County Historical Society located at 6549 North Chestnut St. in Ravenna, Ohio 44266 (Chapter's Mailing Address is 6551 North Chestnut St., Ravenna, OH 44266).
From I-76: Exit at St. Rt. 44 North. Continue on 44 into Ravenna (Prospect St.). Turn left (west) onto Main St., proceed one block on Main St. and turn right (north) onto Chestnut St. Continue north on Chestnut. The Society will be on the west (left side), just before Maple Grove Cemetery, which is on the east side of Chestnut Street and Ravenna High School building is just north of the historical society property.
From the Ohio Turnpike: Exit #193 at St. Rt. 44 in Shalersville. Head south on St. Rt. 44 toward St. Rt. 303 approximately 4.6 miles. Continue straight on Chestnut St. (Rt. 44) through the intersection of St. Rts. 44 and 14 (Sheetz Gas station on the corner). Pass Universal Hospital Portage County Medical Center (formerly Robinson Memorial Hospital) on the right. The Historical Society is on the right (west) just past the Ravenna High School and south of Maple Grove Cemetery on the left.
