Promoting and stimulating knowledge and interest in the study of genealogy

Obituaries are an excellent resource for historians and genealogists, supplying important chronological details, but also acting as a window, albeit a narrow one, into the life of someone in the past. 

A surname index to the obituary notebooks project of the Portage County Chapter of OGS has been created. Thousands of names can be found with many death notices and full obituaries on each page. Each obituary is indexed along with the year it was published (a few from the mid 1800's through some from the early 2000s).  

The opportunity to purchase copies and/or scans of individual pages for $3.00 each is available. To search the index, click on the pdf files listed at right to download and view (parenthesis indicates two entries for that person on the same page).
